9 Things To Do And See In High Wycombe
New to High Wycombe? Here for uni, college or just figuring out your next chapter? Welcome. You’ve landed in a town that’s got a bit of everything, from countryside escapes to late night food runs and proper good coffee.
We’ve put together a list of nine things every student (or visitor) should do, see or try in High Wycombe.
1. Wander Through Wycombe’s Historic Heart
Start on the High Street. Grab a coffee at B’Hive, one of our newest additions to town. Set inside one of Wycombe’s oldest buildings dating back to 1399, this charming venue blends slow brewed coffee and daytime catch ups with live music, evening cocktails and global tapas. They even stock local favourite Rebellion beer on tap. It’s a proper all rounder and well worth making your regular.
Or, if you’re after something a little more laid back, head over to Castle Street and soak up the atmosphere at the award winning The Front Room Coffee Lounge. This much loved student hangout is known for great coffee, delicious sourdough toasties and relaxed workspace vibes, perfect for finishing that last minute assignment.
After your morning pick me up, have a mooch around the local shops and take in the historic buildings that give the town its character. The Guildhall, isn’t just a pretty backdrop. It’s home to the wonderfully quirky annual mayor weighing in ceremony and Little Market House, also known as the Pepper Pot, dates back to Wycombe’s prosperous 17th and 18th century.
Depending on the day, you can also hunt for bargains at the town’s market, which takes place every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, with selected Sundays bringing the artisan market packed with local creatives and makers. My Wycombe also team up with specialist partners throughout the year to host themed pop ups, including our popular vegan market.
Got some time to spare? Why not catch a show at Wycombe Swan and make a day of it. The popular theatre hosts everything from comedy and live music to well known touring productions.

“You’ve landed in a town that’s got a bit of everything”.

2. Escape To The Hills
Need a break from lectures? The Rye is just a five minute walk from the town centre and provides the perfect backdrop for an afternoon riverside stroll. If the sun’s out, grab a patch of grass and enjoy a picnic with some mates.
If you’re feeling slightly more energetic, head up to Hughenden Park or explore the Chiltern Hills. The countryside really is on your doorstep here, so there’s plenty of beautiful outdoor spaces and local walks to enjoy.
3. Discover The Chairmaking Story
High Wycombe is famous for its furniture making past, once known as the chairmaking capital of the world. Why not head over to Wycombe Museum and dive into the town’s chairmaking history, see the tools and craftsmanship that built its reputation, and get a real sense of how that industry shaped the place you’re now calling home. Entry to the museum and gardens is free, and you can easily spend a relaxed hour or two exploring, so it’s a great low cost way to spend an afternoon in town.
4. Shop Smart On A Student Budget
High Wycombe has a mix of high street brands and independents, so you can grab essentials and still hunt for something a bit different.
Eden Shopping Centre is right at the heart of town and gives you loads of choice in one easy wander. It’s bright, spacious and home to over 100 retailers, plus plenty of spots to eat, grab a coffee or catch a film. Whether you’re updating your wardrobe, picking up last minute bits or just window shopping between lectures, it’s an easy place to spend an hour or two.
Then step back out onto the surrounding streets and you’ll find some brilliant independent businesses too.

5. Get Competitive
Bowling. Cinema nights. Arcade battles. High Wycombe has plenty of ways to blow off steam after a long week.
Head to Cineworld in Eden for an easy film night with friends, whether it’s a big blockbuster or a low key midweek escape. Right next door you’ll find Hollywood Bowl, where flatmate rivalries can be settled properly on the lanes before drifting towards the arcade.
Looking for something even more competitive? Carnival Golf and Games, also in Eden Shopping Centre, takes things up a level with two colourful 12 hole crazy golf courses, electric darts and a full on carnival style arcade. It’s loud, lively and perfect for group nights out.
If you’d rather test your brain than your swing, High Wycombe Escape Rooms at The Works is a brilliant shout. Round up your team, crack the clues and see who keeps their cool under pressure. Bonus points because there’s food on site once you’ve escaped.
Or, if you prefer something more active, Clip ’n Climb brings 22 bright climbing challenges, including the Stairway to Heaven, while TeamSport High Wycombe delivers full throttle indoor e karting on a multi level track. Ideal for birthdays, society socials or just proving you’re the fastest in your house.
6. Move your body
Whether you’re a regular gym goer or just trying to balance out takeaway nights, High Wycombe gives you options.
If you’re after simple, flexible and good value, The Gym Group on Castle Street is a solid shout. It’s no contract, offers plenty of deals throughout the year, free classes and even free parking. Ideal if you want straightforward workouts without the commitment.
Over in Eden Shopping Centre, Buzz Gym is hard to miss. Spread over two floors with more than 200 stations, dedicated training zones and two studios, it’s open 24 hours and has a real high energy feel. There’s a huge free weights area, a track and functional training zone, and student friendly pricing. They even host club style DJ nights if you like your workouts with a bit more atmosphere.
Also in Eden, Anytime Fitness offers a slightly calmer, friendly space with top of the range equipment and 24 hour access. It’s great if you want flexibility and a supportive vibe, whether you’re squeezing in an early session or heading there late after lectures. Free parking for members is a bonus too.
Whatever your pace, sometimes the best way to survive deadline season is a decent workout and a good playlist.
7. Enjoy local events
High Wycombe knows how to put on a show. We hold a number of popular local events for locals and visitors to enjoy. Every May we host Frogfest, our FREE family friendly music festival that brings live bands, street food and a brilliant atmosphere right into the heart of the town centre.
Then in November we organise the Christmas Lights Switch On, a festive celebration packed with entertainment, community spirit and that first proper dose of Christmas magic. Alongside the big headline events, we run plenty of smaller pop ups and seasonal happenings throughout the year, so there’s usually something going on.

9. Use it as a base
One of the best things about living here? You’re seriously well connected.

It’s a great base for your student years, and beyond.
