High Wycombe will be raising a salute to our military heroes on Saturday 26th June, as Armed Forces Day comes to the high street…
Marking the annual Armed Forces Day, Saturday 26th June will be an important day in the military calendar, and in honour of High Wycombe’s own military heroes, the town centre will be hosting a celebration event on the high street between 11am – 4pm.
There’ll be entertainment throughout the day, including a live Military Brass Band, a trio of singing military sweethearts – The Polka Dots – and a Vintage Pop Up Tearoom styled by the town’s very own Air Raid Café & Tearoom, with amazing war-time props and refreshments.
Get into the blitz spirit with some rousing sing-a-longs, or add a name to the giant Colour-In Military Heroes Wall to celebrate a loved one from the Army, Navy or Air Force.
Royal British Legion will be fundraising for the military charity, plus there’ll be demonstrations and exhibits from the local Army and Sea cadet groups, as well as a flag-raising led by the new Town Mayor, Chairman and dignitaries from High Wycombe’s RAF Base.
Designed in a Covid-safe format, and hosted alongside Saturday’s busy market, the one-day celebration event from 11am – 4pm will be packed with family-friendly activity, live musical performances, face painting, a gourmet food market and more.
The event is being organised by HWBIDCo, cheerleaders for High Wycombe town centre. Chief Executive Melanie Williams commented:“It’s an honour to celebrate all those who have served our country in this way and we’re delighted that so many local military organisations will be joining us for the event. The ‘Air Raid Café’ in The Chilterns Centre is an amazing destination café too, and we’re excited to bring this out into the open for all the enjoy.
This is just the start of a Summer of fun, with regular events taking place throughout the coming months, and it’s a great feeling to be able to welcome increasingly more visitors to the town after the last 12 months.”
