High Wycombe diner wins prestigious award

In just two years, James William Diners has gone from a hidden gem in High Wycombe to a nationally recognized name, winning the prestigious Best UK Caribbean Takeaway Award 2024. Sponsored by Deliveroo, the accolade was announced during the UK Caribbean Food Awards on December 9, following a fiercely competitive cook-off in London that saw the restaurant triumph over tough rivals.

Dawn Burton, Co-Founder of the UK Caribbean Food Awards, celebrated the achievement saying, “This year’s awards brought together so many talented individuals and businesses elevating Caribbean cuisine and culture. James William Diners is a shining example of how passion and dedication can create something truly special.”

Located on Crendon Street, just steps from High Wycombe train station, the restaurant’s convenient location and welcoming atmosphere have made it a favourite among commuters and locals alike. Since opening in 2022, James William Diners has earned an impressive 4.6/5 rating from 139 Google Reviews.

“We put so much time, effort, and love into every meal we serve,” shared Cynthia St Ange, co-owner of the restaurant. “Winning this award is a dream come true, and we’re so grateful to our loyal customers for their support. No matter what happens, there will always be a James William Diners.”

As well as serving up delicious food, owners Andrew and Cynthia have also dedicated themselves to making a positive impact—both locally and globally. The restaurant has implemented multiple sustainability initiatives, including comprehensive recycling processes and a ‘Gift Tree’ scheme to help families in Tanzania, Uganda, and Kenya plant trees in their communities. Each tree is geotagged, allowing supporters to track its growth and impact online.

Closer to home, the restaurant also runs an event called ‘Breakfast and the Word’ every Sunday morning from 8 am to 10 am. Guests enjoy a free breakfast while engaging in meaningful conversations about Bible passages and connecting with others in the community. This initiative reflects the restaurant’s commitment to creating a space where people can come together, share stories, and support one another.
