Community Comes Together for Teddy Trade
December’s Eco Elves Teddy Trade Event at Eden Shopping Centre has been hailed as a resounding success. Over 13 boxes of preloved teddies were donated during the initiative, with the cuddly companions recently delivered to Stokenchurch Dog Rescue to provide comfort for dogs awaiting new homes.
Held throughout December, the event encouraged children to trade their old teddies for a “new” companion. The process involved a ‘magic machine’ that added a touch of excitement, while proceeds from ticket sales supported Heart of Bucks, a local charity funding community projects.
The donated teddies were then given to Stokenchurch Dog Rescue, bringing joy to dogs needing a new home.
Rebecca Gomme, Marketing Manager at Eden Shopping Centre, praised the community’s involvement:
“It was so lovely to see the joy from families when children received their new teddies. Knowing that the donated teddies were going to such a great local cause made it even more special. Getting to see the dogs’ happiness when we dropped them off this week was brilliant. I’d like to express my personal thanks to everyone who made it happen, especially all the children who brought along their preloved teddies.”
At Stokenchurch Dog Rescue, the delivery of teddies was met with gratitude and enthusiasm. Stephen Rockell, Centre Manager, said: “We are thrilled at the success of the event and the impact this will have on the dogs at the centre. These teddy bears will be a lovely comfort to calm anxious and scared dogs as they get used to their temporary new home.
“We have been through all the bears and removed any that are not suitable for the dogs as toys. These will be used to help raise funds for the centre, ensuring we can continue our care for the dogs.”
Eden Shopping Centre is already planning more community-focused projects for 2025. Keep an eye on their website for more details.
