Chiltern Railway Update to Pay as you Go
Chiltern Railways is part of a project to expand contactless Pay As You Go technology to 53 additional stations across the London rail network. This will deliver Pay As You Go contactless technology to 6 additional Chiltern stations – High Wycombe, Beaconsfield, Denham, Denham Golf Club, Gerrards Cross and Seer Green & Jordans in 2024.
To prepare for the Pay As You Go launch, Chiltern will be making some changes to our fares structure at these stations from Sunday 3 December, to ensure ticketing parameters are consistent across participating train operators.
This will include:
o Introducing a single leg pricing structure, meaning single fares will cost around 50% of the current return fare.
o A simplification of ticket prices. There will be two prices for each journey on the day, one peak and one off-peak fare with consistent peak and off-peak times for all operators.
o Peak times will be charged on a Monday to Friday between 04:30 and 09:30 in the morning and 16:00 – 19:00 in the evening.
More information about these fare changes can be found at: https://www.nationalrail.co.uk/peak/
This fare change will pave the way for the launch of Pay As You Go contactless technology at these Chiltern stations in Spring 2024. The introduction of contactless will provide customers with more flexibility when travelling, being able to turn up and pay for a short distance journey into London without the hassle of buying a ticket in advance.
We will issue a further update when a launch date is confirmed by the Department for Transport in conjunction with our partners at Transport for London and the Rail Delivery Group.
