Tone, a modern, fun, atmospheric Café located in DesBox, Desborough is a unique exciting spot that is a must visit in Wycombe. Last week we sat down with Tony Thompson, the owner, to find out a little more about his business.
Immediately upon entering, it’s clear that Tone is a labour of love, built around celebrating the wonderful and eclectic interests of Tony the owner – with sneaker murals on the wall and graffiti art decorating the counter, Tone is, undeniably, visually unique from its counterparts.
Originally from Slough, Tony’s presence in the town is thanks to his godson – a Wycombe local and a player at WWFC – whose recommendation of ‘DesBox’ as a future trending spot drew Tony to the area. Tony saw great potential in the area and the opportunity to help support community based projects.
So how does Tony describe his café to potential visitors?
“We are just a group of Hip Hop individuals with a desire to create a space where like minded people can connect, inspire and entertain. No big budgets, No big investors, just a dream and a plan”.
Tone’s cakes, cookies & snacks are all homemade with passion & personality, and their speciality Jamaican Rum Cake is a ‘must have’… and not forgetting their amazing coffee, an in-house blend with a deep smooth flavour and caramel notes.
Aside from its distinct décor, ‘community’ is the other way Tone sets itself apart, with planned events celebrating the talent of locals. Tony supports many local artists by showcasing their work around the café providing a brilliant exposure opportunity and an avenue for up and coming artists to sell their work.
In terms of events, Tone has an exciting future, with a regular roster of Live DJ Sets, In Store Performances, Exhibitions, Gaming Events and Film Nights. Plus, coming up THIS month:
Sunday 21st November – ‘Run For Cover’ – FREE Event
A celebration of local music, showcasing a 3 piece jazz band, MC’s and singers – a FREE event!
There’s talks of future evening and Christmas events too so keep an eye out for more details. Tony, with his open-minded attitude, puts it simply, “We’re open to hosting all sorts here – if it benefits the community, it’s perfect for our space.’’
Being so focused on the local community, Tony had many a recommendation of other local businesses to visit – including the neighbouring Vivi Lash Bar and Reshoe.UK, both of which he praised for their unique concept and welcoming atmosphere. In addition to this he recommended Burger Daddy also located in Desborough a delicious spot offering fresh burgers, milkshakes and mac & cheese!
