A treasured local café nestled in the centre of Wycombe, The Front Room provides a unique, trendy experience to its loyal patrons. Having set themselves apart from the crowd, it offers a busy roster of events and experiences, as well as popular co-working opportunities. We dropped in on owner, Lauren Ross, to find out a little more about her and what makes The Front Room so special.

Q. The Front Room is a local gem here in High Wycombe but could you tell us a little bit about your business for those who don’t know?
We are an award-winning coffee lounge located in the High Wycombe town centre and have now been open for 3 years. We are a tight knit team, and massive lovers of plants, dogs, books and, obviously, good coffee, which is hopefully reflected throughout the vibe in the café.
Q. What was it that led you to choose High Wycombe as a destination for The Front Room?
I originally moved to High Wycombe from Devon to study dance and performance at university but found through my studies it wasn’t something I wanted to do anymore. I suffered from some mental health issues and was worrying about whether to change courses or go back to Devon. While I was looking for somewhere to live I came across an empty shell on Castle Street and I just had this feeling that I had to have it and make it magical…and the rest is history!
The Front Room is a unique cafe experience, what would you guys say you do differently to other local cafés?
Being able to use local cake bakers like Kitchen at 4A and Crumbs & Brownies are amazing, and definitely something I think makes us different. We love putting on events and workshops and recently had an amazing sushi masterclass!
We make fresh sandwiches every day along with fresh orange juice and of course, freshly grounded coffee. The shop’s filled with air-purifying plants, artwork created by artist Bubblegum Print Studio and up-cycled furniture – providing cosy sofas to melt into after a long day.
Q. Do you have any exciting upcoming events or offers?
We always have great events, workshops and classes available for people to book on to which can be found on our socials @thefrontroomhw, and the events board in the shop. We are currently finishing our website so even our non-Instagram friends can still see what we are getting up to!
Q. What other local ‘hidden gem’ would you recommend to any town centre visitors?
My other favourite local gem in High Wycombe is the Air Raid Shelter Café in the Chilterns. I think they do amazing work and have such a beautiful space with so much background and history.
