High Wycombe Town Centre Flies The Flag for Armed Forces Day
High Wycombe town centre will be raising a salute to our military heroes on Saturday 24th June, as an Armed Forces Day celebration comes to the high street …
Marking the annual Armed Forces Day, Saturday 24th June will be an important day in the military calendar, and in honour of High Wycombe’s own military heroes, the town centre will be once again hosting its popular celebration event on the high street between 11am – 4pm.
There’ll be entertainment throughout the day, including a LIVE Trio of singing Military Sweethearts – The Polka Dots – plus Military themed amusement from a street-theatre roaming tank and its comedy Sergeant…
But if ONE tank weren’t enough, we’ll be bringing along a second REAL LIFE tank – an AV Striker. The giant vehicle, based at RAF Benson will take pride of place in the Military Vehicle display situated along the High Street and Cornmarket.
Royal British Legion will be fundraising for the military charity, plus there’ll be demonstrations and exhibits from the local Army & Sea cadet groups, Thames Valley Police, and Star & Garter home for veterans.
The HWBIDCo team will be getting in the blitz spirit with rousing sing-a-longs, giant games, and our GIANT Colour-In Military Heroes Wall, celebrate all our loved ones from the Army, Navy & Air Force – be sure to add their name to the wall in homage to their service to the country.
Hosted alongside Saturday’s busy market, the one-day celebration event from 11am – 4pm will be packed with family-friendly activity, live music displays and a gourmet food market.
Organised by HWBidCo, the team have been practicing their salutes; “It’s an honour to celebrate all those who have served our country in this way, encouraging a sense of pride in the younger generations, and we’re delighted that so many local military
organisations will be joining us for the event. It’s just the start of a Summer of FREE fun in the town centre, with regular events taking place throughout the coming months – from carnivals & live acoustic performances to family festivals, there’s lots to look forward to in High Wycombe this Summer.”
